We are incredibly proud to have Sophie Baldry of #TeamPCR for the 2019 London Marathon. She has worked so hard with her training and fundraising, getting people from all over involved. She’s proven to be an inspiration to the team with her ideas, commitment and passion – thank you, Sophie!
‘I’m proud to be running the London Marathon this year in aid of the PCR in memory of my grandad, Alan. To begin with I was almost as daunted by the $4,200 fundraising target as I was with the thought of 26.2 miles and months of training ahead of me!
‘I’m lucky enough to work for an organization that massively supports charitable causes, so I knew the best approach was to get as many colleagues involved as possible. With branches across the country, this network felt like a great place to start, playing a major role in local communities. After I proposed the idea at a regional forum, a unanimous vote thankfully meant that more than 170 branches agreed to host an event during the week of Valentine’s Day. Each location was supplied with PCR materials to help spread awareness and raise funds, which I also think had a really important part to play.
‘I was blown away by the support of over 1,500 colleagues and the amazing fundraising total achieved at the end of the week: $8,561!
‘It just goes to show, it’s important to ask for help when you need it – you’ll never know just how far people are willing to go to help you achieve your goals.
‘I’m still slowly raising more funds, with a current total of $1,0447.96, and on every training run I think of the fantastic people I work with. The support that colleagues in the branches gave, as well as those donating in the local community, really brought home how many people are impacted in some way by prostate cancer. Thinking of all those people will help me to get over the finish line on 28th April!’
