The idea of finding people to climb Snowdon to raise funds for prostate cancer research was dreamed up over 10 years ago by PCR Patron, Matt Rannamets who had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. Matt was diagnosed in 2004, at the age of 57, and was told he had just 2 years to live. However, 2 years on and still fighting, he decided he wanted to give something back to the doctors and researchers who work so tirelessly to put an end to prostate cancer, and helped to prolong his prognosis.
And so, the Snowdon 500 event was born and now takes place every year to raise vital funds for prostate cancer research into life-threatening disease. Sadly, prostate cancer took Matt’s life in 2016, but his legacy lives on through this inspiring event. His idea proved successful, having raised over 1 million pounds for the Prostate Cancer Research so far and rises each year.
The event attracts familiar faces each year as well as lots of new supporters, its a great way to get everyone together for a common purpose, supporting prostate cancer research and our loved ones who have been affected by the disease.
