At PCRC, we focus on researching advanced prostate cancer. This is because prostate cancer is treatable when it is confined to the prostate, but once it spreads to other parts of the body, it becomes incurable and dangerous. We urgently need better treatments for men with this life-threatening disease, and we can only do that by funding excellent, ground-breaking research. Every pound that you raise will help us to achieve our vision of a better future for anyone impacted by prostate cancer. You can help us use science to turn hope into reality.
It is a challenge that takes in the stunning views of the Thames Pathway! You can take on this challenge in your own manageable amount completing a 25, 50 or 100km route and it allows you to undertake a challenge and raise money as you do so.
Ultra-Challenge will always be bang up-to-date with social distancing guidelines, additional hygiene measures, full risk assessments, and the implementation of best practice – to ensure that everyone feels safe, remains safe throughout, and can focus on completing an enjoyable Ultra Challenge!
This challenge is suited to all abilities, you can make it as easy or as hard as you choose it to be, meaning that you can decide how you want to take it on and it is a challenge for everyone.
You will a receive a medal, t-shirt and a glass of fizz to congratulate you! You will also receive a thank you letter from the Prostate Cancer Research Centre and a warm heart feeling for supporting a cause you love!
The Challenge takes place on the 11th-12th September 2021!
You can find the 2021 route on the Thames Path Challenge website – https://ultrachallenge.com/thames-path-challenge/

Your fundraising helps us to support our research and ultimately transform lives. We could not continue to fund our research without you, and without our research we cannot achieve better outcomes for men with prostate cancer and their families.
We currently fund eleven research projects, all of which aim to develop more effective treatments for and better understandings of prostate cancer. Following our ecosystem report, we are determined to fund projects that explore current gaps in knowledge and treatment to move the field forward and reach new and better treatments sooner.
Find out more about our specific research projects in our research area.
We fund scientists across the UK at all stages of their career. We care about the barriers faced by researchers and recognise the importance of nurturing and encouraging innovation and collaboration, to ensure that research is moving as effectively as possible to reach better outcomes for patients sooner.
By fundraising for us, you are supporting scientists at all stages of their research journey and ensuring they are treated with respect, offered flexibility and given the support they deserve.
You can find out more about our scientists in our research area.
We listen to patients and fund the research that will lead to outcomes that matter most to them, so that our research is entirely patient-focussed. By supporting PCR, you are supporting patients who are sharing their stories and experiences and helping to fund the research that matters most to them.
Find out more about our patient voice panel and hear from patients who have been impacted by PCR’s work.
With your support, we will provide scientists with the space, flexibility, and environment that helps turn great ideas into successful treatments.
How much could you raise for our PCR scientists? Did you know that –
£73 would fund materials to grow a cell colony.
£250 would fund 6 months of essential lab consumables.
£1,200 would fund a box of new antibodies to test.
£10,000 would fund a live imaging microscope camera.
